As Missouri Democrats, the members of the St. Louis County Democratic Central Committee believe that all students - regardless of wealth, race, or ZIP code - deserve to access a high quality, free, equitable public education.

Students should be assured the right:

• To access a curriculum unrestricted by political censorship

• To graduate from school ready to succeed 

• To a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment 

• To access a top quality education at their local school

• To know all members of our school communities voices are heard

In order to ensure the highest quality education, we believe students have the right to access a curriculum unrestricted by political censorship. We cannot let our children's education be compromised by the interference of politicians who have chosen to exploit our public schools and manufacture controversy for personal political gain. Students have the right to study the most accurate science, to read the most expansive literature, to learn the most truthful history. To restrict knowledge from our students is to hold our children back from their full potential.

Our students have the right to graduate from school ready to succeed in a world filled with people of diverse perspectives and histories. The best way to prepare Missouri students to be successful is to give them access to history and literature that reflects that rich diversity. Representation matters, both to those represented, and to the whole community.

We believe Missouri students have a right to a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment to learn in. We must ensure bullying is addressed and prevented. We must empower our school boards and administrators to protect the safety and wellbeing of our students. We must make sure all students feel included in classrooms and school activities, and have access to the tools and accommodations they need to succeed.

We believe that all students should be able to access a top quality education at their local school. Students’ rights to a quality education should not be limited by address, identity, or income, or available only to those in select schools, but freely available to every child in every part of our state. That starts with funding the needs of all schools.  Missouri should not be 49th in funding our schools; we should be first.

We believe that all members of our community should have their voices heard in our local schools: our students, our teachers, our school staff, our parents and caregivers. Only by standing together as a community in support of our schools can we build them into the finest educational institutions in the country.
